Time Management Tips: Prioritize Your Work
Have you ever had so much to do that you ended up not getting anything done? This happens to most people who try to jam everything they can into their limited schedules. There are no priorities set so there is a jumble of things that need to be done. It can appear to be daunting and most people are overwhelmed with such a prospect.
If you want to cut down on stress, you have to prioritize your work. Here are six effective methods for prioritizing your work:
Have A Due Date
Even if the project is not due by a certain time, give it a due date. Write it down if need be. This gives you a goal. If you have a due date for each project, you can prioritize them and work towards the goals, which is getting the project done by the due date. The projects that are the most important get done first. This is the most effective way to prioritize your work.
Do The Worst Stuff First
Do the harder tasks first. These are the ones that weigh on your mind the heaviest. If you tackle them first, the rest will be easier. If you have a list of cleaning the bathroom, shopping for towels and getting an article done, for example, do the bathroom first, assuming you dislike this chore. This way, the towel shopping will be easier and you will have peace of mind when you sit down to write the article.
Do The Longer Tasks First
If you start with the simple and easy tasks, you will be stressed the entire time thinking about the daunting big project you have going. Get the most difficult and longest tasks out of the way first so that you can fly through the easy and quick tasks.
Do What You Like Last
Save the tasks for which you have a passion for until last. This is because you will always find time to get them done. If you do these first, you will not enjoy them as much because you will be thinking that you have other projects to do that you do not enjoy. Do the tough stuff first and leave the fun stuff until last.
Go To Farther Locations First
If you have tasks that involve travel, then go to the destination that is the farthest from your home and work your way back. This will make you feel better as you will be working towards the goal of getting home instead of moving away from home.
Get Difficult Stuff Done First
Get the difficult stuff done first when your mind is fresh. This will enable you to be more effective in these tasks. You will also feel a sense of relief when the difficult task is finished which will enable you to be more effective in your other work.
